Ensure no more pressure is put on the wound: Once a pressure sore is seen, take every step possible to make sure that no more pressure is put on that part of the body. This can be harder than it sounds depending on where the pressure sore is located. For example, if a pressure sore is found on the bottom, then it is going to be hard to not apply any more pressure to that area because it will mean constantly rotating from one side to the other without sitting as one normally would and without lying on one's back.
Keep the pressure sore as clean as possible: The pressure sore needs to be kept clean to avoid infection setting in and to prevent the sore from getting worse. The area should be washed frequently with mild soap and warm water. It should also be patted dry softly to avoid causing more injury to the area. An antibacterial ointment can also be applied to the area, but the area should not be covered so air can get to it.
Use a pressure sore treatment rotation mattress system: Changing a person's normal mattress to a pressure sore treatment rotation mattress will help a person's pressure sores heal and help significantly decrease their chances of developing more. This is due to the system rotating the person from one side to the other every ten minutes, so there won't be continuous pressure put on the same area.
